USDA raises Russia’s 2021 wheat harvest forecast to 81 mln tns

MOSCOW, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture has raised its forecast for Russia’s wheat harvest in the 2022–2023 agricultural year, or in the 2022 calendar year, to 81 million tonnes from 80 million tonnes, as seen by PRIME in the authority’s report released late on June 10.

The authority also upgraded Russia’s wheat export forecast for the 2022–2023 agricultural year, lasting from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, to 40 million tonnes from 39 million tonnes.

Russia’s wheat exports should hit a record because of a great harvest and lower competition with other exporters of the Black Sea region. Additional chances for exports to the Indian market arise due to low harvests in the region and high demand from the main importers in the Middle East and North Africa. Russia is still capable of becoming the world’s leading wheat exporter in 2022–2023 in spite of the economic sanctions and high export duties, the authority said.
